Base Pad Fabric = Yellow Suedecloth with Printed cotton
Inserts = 2 layers flannelette each insert
Absorbency: Adjustable Regular to heavy

Ai2 Or Base&Insert pads feature a waterproofed base pad that has no absorbency itself, with removable inserts that sit on top and can be replaced as needed.  Use 1 insert for a regular flow or 2 inserts together for a heavy flow.   For light flow or spotting you may be able to refold the insert after wearing it a short while to expose a clean surface of the insert.

Once folded, a single trifold insert contains 6 layers of flannelette, which is a regular absorbency.

This style of pad essentially gives you 4 pads in one, and reduces the environmental impact by having only the base with synthetic waterproofing materials, with the inserts made only from natural fabrics.  You may even be able to substitute a folded facewasher or other absorbent item for additional inserts if you wish.

To use the pad:  Fold the insert into thirds and place it under the straps on the ends of the pad.
