Includes one base and 4 inserts. Additional inserts can be purchased here. The base is made from a top layer of black microfleece and a backing of black PUL. The inserts are made from one layer hemp/organic cotton fleece and 1 layer flannelette. The inserts can be worn either side up. You can use one insert at a time for light flow, or use 2 inserts together for medium flow. Having each insert as a "light" absorbency gives you greater flexibility in how you use the pad set.  You can also wear the inserts on their own as wingless pantyliners. As the base is waterproofed, the inserts can be allowed to soak through to the base. However it is important to use the right number of inserts for your flow and to change inserts regularly enough that they are not allowed to become too soaked through, or you may have to change the base instead of just the inserts. If your flow goes onto the ribbon straps that hold the inserts in place, you can wipe this off when changing inserts, or choose a longer pad so that you are not bleeding onto where the ribbons would be.
