Lunch Wrap Features

No waste - Unlike using throw away plastic cling wrap, you reuse this over again, so no more clogging up landfill with pieces of plastic. Using the snack bags allows you to buy or make foods in bulk and not contribute to daily waste of individual packets of chips or snack bars.

Easy to use - Simply lay the sandwich (or other items) in the centre of the wrap and fold the ends over, the hook and loop tape keeping it closed. To clean it, you can simply wipe it clean with a cloth, wash it with your dishes, or run it through the washing machine.

Actually works! - I was sceptical myself at first, but I was amazed. The PUL wraps are made from a polyurethane coated fabric, which helps keep the moisture in, to keep your bread nice and soft. Got a messy sandwich? The PUL wraps are waterproof, so will also help to keep gooey things like jam or mayonnaise from leaking through. The all-cotton wraps can help keep your sandwich or other foods from touching plastic lunchboxes and provide an alternative to throw away options like baking paper.

Great for kids - Easy for young children to open, colourful to make lunch times fun, and helps teach them to be aware of the environment by not producing waste. It is easy for them to wrap back up again if bringing home the remains of their lunch.

For Mum & Dad too! - Not just for kids, adults can take their lunch to work in these too. Great for eating at the desk or on your lap, because the wrap also acts like a placemat once opened, so messy foods can be eaten over this to catch any mess.

Not just for sandwiches - Anything that won`t leak or fall out of the wrap can be used with these. Apple slices or orange wedges, crackers, carrot and celery sticks and more. Experiment! A pouch style "snack bag" is also available, which is better suited for smaller foods, like dried fruit, crackers or a mini muffin.

Encourage Healthy Eating - Because these wraps are colourful and fun, food inside them seems less boring, even healthier food alternatives can be exciting.

Great for Picnics - Now you can pack sandwiches and know instantly whose sandwich is whose! Let the kids choose which wrap will be theirs while you are making their lunch, and you`ll never have to open up sandwiches to find out which ones they are again.

Sizes
They are adjustable to fit different sizes of bread. The regular size will fit 1 sandwich, and has best results with bread approx 13cm square or smaller. Not recommended for bread larger than 15x14cm or for sandwiches over 3cm thick. Please use the larger wraps for larger slices of bread, with rolls or for use with 2 sandwiches.

The Evils of Plastics - Many people do not like the idea of food touching any plastics at all (including "gladwrap" and plastic lunchboxes). The all-cotton Lunch Wraps can allow you to wrap foods that will be placed in a lunchbox, to avoid food coming directly into contact with the plastic. Some of the PUL Lunch Wraps and Snack Bags have the laminated side away from the food, so that the lamination does not touch the food. For those who like the convenience (wipe clean ability) of the plain PUL wraps, but do not wish to have food in contact with the laminated coating, there are cloth wraps available that you may use to wrap the food items in before they are placed in the PUL wrap (which can also double as a serviette), or use one of the all-cotton wraps or snack bags.

Lunch Wrap Composition

There are 3 types of Lunch Wraps available.

Plain PUL Wrap - This is a square of PUL (fabric with a polyurethane coating on one side) with overlocked edges and Hook & loop closure. This type of wrap can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth, or washed with the dishes, and dries very fast. The PUL in the wraps help keep sandwiches moist by blocking airflow that would normally dry out the bread, and can keep gooey fillings from leaking through the wrap.

PUL & Cotton Wrap (PUL lined)- These wraps are made from 2 layers of fabric, with an inner layer of PUL and an outer layer of cotton. The laminated side of the PUL is between the layers, so that only the fabric side touches the food. This style of wrap may be wiped clean with a cloth or washed with the dishes, but may need to be washed in a washing machine before reusing. This gives the advantages of PUL but without the laminated surface touching the food.

Cotton Wraps - These are made from only cotton fabric, with no PUL. Suitable for those who do not want any plastics at all (although the hook and loop tape is synthetic). These do not have the waterproof properties of the PUL wraps, and do not keep food quite as moist, but do still block out some of the airflow that makes bread go hard. Best used in a lunchbox, which will itself keep the sandwich from drying out.

Snack Bags

The snack bags are a small bag that you can use to replace small "Ziplock" bags. They can also allow you to buy foods in bulk and avoid buying smaller prepackaged foods - which saves wasteful packaging. Useful for kids lunches or recess, or even in the car or take to the movies... Any time you need a snack. Items such chips, crackers, popcorn, homemade muesli bars, nuts, fruit slices, cheese, mini muffins, biscuits, dried fruit, carrot/celery sticks... and more. The PUL or PUL-lined bags are best to use with moist foods like cheese or fruit, as they will contain the moisture.

This type of snack bag can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth, or washed with the dishes, and dries very fast. The PUL helps keep food moist by blocking airflow that would normally dry out the food, and can keep wet foods (like fruit slices) from leaking through the bag.

PUL & Cotton (PUL lined)- These are made from 2 layers of fabric, with an inner layer of PUL and an outer layer of cotton. The laminated side of the PUL is between the layers, so that only the fabric side touches the food. Cotton - These are made from only cotton fabric, with no PUL. Suitable for those who do not want any plastics at all. These do not have the waterproof properties of the PUL wraps, and do not keep food moist or contained, so are not suitable for use with fruit, cheese etc. and are best for dry foods, like crackers, biscuits etc.

Care & Washing of Lunch Wraps and Snack Bags

They may be machine washed, but tumble drying is not recommended for ones containing PUL. We wash ours (Plain PUL) with the dishes each night and they are ready to go again the next day. The fabric ones might take longer to dry. PUL lined lunch wraps may be wiped clean with a sponge on the side that contacts food. Do not put them in the dishwasher. You can open the snack bags and turn them inside out to make sure they are clean on the inside. They are used in contact with food, so treat as you would a lunchbox or other food storage item.

They must be washed before first use.

PUL and Food

To my knowledge this type of PUL has not been tested for use with food, so it is not rated food grade. However PUL of a thicker composition has been used for food applications, and there are other sandwich wrap products made from similar materials on the market. (Polyurethene is often used in food containers) If you do not wish to have your food in contact with the plastic coating, then simply wrap the food in baking paper or a piece of cloth (such as the cotton wrap cloths) before placing it in the wrap, or use a wrap with no exposed PUL. If you are concerned about use of plastic around food at all (even if it is not in contact with the food), then it is recommended to use one of the all cotton wraps/bags.

The PUL-Lined wraps and snack bags are made so that the laminated side of the fabric is inside the wrap. So that the fabric side of the fabric would be against the food. This is to prevent the plastic from touching the food.

Wrap & Strap Sets

Instead of sandwiches we often use our lunch wraps for flatbread wraps, (like Mountain Bread). My young one loves them because there are no crusts she has to eat, and I love her having them because I can fill them up with salad vegetables that would be "boring" in a regular sandwich!

The Wrap Strap sets come with the square PUL wrap, which has no velcro on it, so it can roll up your flatbread wraps easily... with a "Wrap Strap" (Usually in a matching PUL) to go around the flatbread wrap to hold it all together, and a second "Wrap Strap" that is longer, and goes around the whole thing once it is wrapped in the PUL Lunchwrap. This longer strap can also secure the lunchwrap when you are using it for sandwiches, making this a versatile set that can be used for either flatbread wraps or normal sandwiches.

Simply place the flatbread-wrap onto the PUL Lunch Wrap, like you would a sandwich.

Fold the sides over. Fold the bottom end up. Then roll up the rest of the wrap, securing it with the second wrap strap.

I'm afraid of my kids throwing them away

It is easier to train kids to not throw these reusable items away if you start with them young. If you start them off at school/kinder taking reusable items, then bringing them home instead of throwing them away, just becomes "normal". Just like you wouldn't throw away a plastic lunchbox, the reusable lunchwraps or snack bags are the same.

If you are using these with someone who is used to throwing away plastic wrap or plastic/paper bags, then you might like to try using these reusable wraps/bags inside a lunchbox. Because the lunchbox is not thrown away, it should be easier to remember not to throw the wraps away. Reinforce that they are going to be reused, and must be brought home. If your child eats their lunch or snacks outside, these wraps should be able to fold up and be put in their pocket.

Because they are brightly coloured, they should be obviously not disposable. Using an iron on label to add your child's name should also reinforce to anyone who sees it, that it is not a disposable item.
