To help put all the hints I've given in the forum in the one place.... I've got them here. Aqua door = Chamber of Water Red door = Chamber of Fire Green door = Chamber of Earth Recap of the hints I've given for Fire Chamber drawing... * it ends in "ing" * Some people put an "e" in there, which is incorrect * it's one word (no spaces and not 2 words put together) * and the passage below from the hint I gave the other day "A rumble of thunder is heard, and lightning illuminates the room. He gathers together his belongings “I must be going, I am sure we will meet again, until then”. He tips his hat, and turns to leave. As he reaches the door another flash of lightning and rumble of thunder. He turns and gives you a wink, then he walks out into the night." Everything you need to complete the hunt is within my hunt - going to google or anywhere else won't help you at all. _____________________________________________ One cold and rainy night, you are sitting at a bar, contemplating life, the Universe and everything. As you ponder away, you become aware of a person sitting down beside you. You look over and see a tall, well dressed man, with a twirly handlebar moustache and a monocle. He puts a heavy leatherbound book onto the bar with a deep thud, pulls out an ornately carved pipe and asks the bartender for "the usual". He turns and notices you looking at him "Good evening" he says with a smooth, well educated English accent. Trying to find the right words of greeting, your stunned brain fails to locate anything useful at all. So you sit there, staring blankly. He smiles and offers out his hand. "Sir Reginald Q Twiddlebottom, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." You shake his hand and introduce yourself. His drink arrives and his attention is turned to it, and the book before him. He chews thoughtfully on the end of his pipe as he scribbles in the book. You try to nonchalantly peek over to see what he is doing. He catches you. "This is a journal of my adventures" he proudly tells you. He hands you the book. The pages are filled with sketches, maps and notes written in a beautiful hand. He tells you that he has been on the hunt for the 'Great Icons of GDUNH' for many years, and that this is a record of all the information he has collected along the way. You skip to the last page of notes, it is titled "The Obsidian Star Mansion". There is a quick sketch of what appears to be a series of passageways, and the note "Find small statured man. Likes to draw". Under this you see what appears to be a sketch of 4 symbols, all labelled. On the last one his writing is illegible, you can only make out the last letters, "ing". Sir Regie asks for his journal back, and you reluctantly hand it over. "I see this has sparked your interest" he remarks. "Adventuring is an endless source of fun, but it can be troubling at times. I find keeping a journal of my travels to be invaluable. If I was to ever lose it, I would be most upset." He tucks the journal into his coat, finishes the last of his drink and bids you farewell. "I hope we shall meet again some day!" and with that, he strides purposefully out the door. _____________________________________________ After your last chance meeting with Sir Reginald Q Twiddlebottom, you find yourself hanging out at the bar more regularly, hoping to meet him again. Your perseverance pays off, when one night you find him sitting at the bar, again jotting things down into his notebook. You sit down beside him and order a drink. Without looking up, he greets you by name. He seems much more observant than he appeared to be. He finishes writing and takes a sip of his drink. “I’ve just been on another adventure” he remarks. You ask him about it, intrigued. It seems he has just found another of the Icons of GDUNH, and is preparing to set off tomorrow for the Obsidian Mansion to find the one he has been longing for. “I have sought much knowledge about this place” he says, opening his journal to show you. “The Icon is hidden well, and only after proving Oneself to the 4 protectors of the Icon, will the path to the Icon open up for you.” You lean closer, fascinated, “But of course, finding them is not always easy. One in particular is notoriously difficult to locate. That is where my knowledge comes in handy”. He flips a page and shows you a page titled “Hidden Doors”. The page gives information about different kinds of hidden doors he has encountered in his travels. Some, it is written, will only open when you speak a particular phrase, some must be opened by pressing a certain spot on the wall. “It pays to be extra observant” he muses, while chewing on his pipe, “Otherwise One may miss valuable paths. Hidden doors are, by their very nature, well hidden... But the seasoned adventurer can spot one by looking carefully and always consulting their maps”. A rumble of thunder is heard, and lightning illuminates the room. He gathers together his belongings “I must be going, I am sure we will meet again, until then”. He tips his hat, and turns to leave. As he reaches the door another flash of lightning and rumble of thunder. He turns and gives you a wink, then he walks out into the night. _____________________________________________ You receive a postcard....it says: "Good day to you, my dear friend. I forgot to mention something at our last meeting. When adventuring, while it is helpful to draw your own map as you go, you will find that maps drawn by someone who knows the whole area will be more helpful. Your maps will only show you where you have been.... other maps show you where its possible to go. Safe adventuring, Reginald." _____________________________________________ Late one night, you are settled on the couch, watching a movie, when the phone rings. You answer it, wondering who would be calling you so late. “Good Evening, I’m sorry to trouble you.” The caller begins, “I’m Professor James Dorrington, head of the Department of Modern Antiquities in the Faculty of History, from the Southern Iconium University.” He pauses while you absorb this information. “I’m sorry to call so late, but we’ve got a pressing matter that we hoped you would be able to help us with.” It seems that Reginald is a distinguished professor of this university, and has been missing for several days. Nobody has been able to contact him. They have searched his home and found that his adventuring gear is missing and it appears he has not been there for quite some time. They fear that he has been lost or injured on one of his travels. “We know Reginald was searching for the Great Icon in the Obsidian Catacombs, we presume that is where we shall find him. However we have done a preliminary search, and he has not been found. We wonder if he has travelled further in than we have been able to follow. We have recently become aware that these chambers spread out much further than we had originally realised. Great portions of them have been closed off, but perhaps he found a way through.” He sounds worried, and you share his fears. “Due to our conversations on the topic before he disappeared, we believe that he had found the four keys that grant access to the Great Icon, and knows the order in which to apply them. Whether or not he got that far, however, is unknown.” There is a pause. “Which brings me to the point of this phone call. Since we know he has spoken to you about his work, we wondered if he had shown you his journal?” You tell the professor that you have had a brief look through Reginald’s journal, and remember portions of it, but you are not sure how helpful what you remember is. You vaguely recall reading something which indicated how to use the four keys, but try as you might, you cannot remember what it actually said. “Very well, I thank you for your assistance on this matter. We have formed a rescue team who shall be heading out in search of Reginald at first light tomorrow. I will call you with any news we have. Good night.” The professor hangs up, and you feel uneasy. Surely Reginald would have made his way through with ease. But without the benefit of his knowledge and the journal that contains it, how would the rescue team be able to make their way through? |
