Hairfalls are a hair accessory that you simply fit over a ponytail or bun, that gives you a dramatic hairstyle change in minutes!
Hair Falls are also known as “Dread Falls” because they resemble dreadlocks – but without the effort!

Hair Falls can be worn as a single “Ponytail” (left) or as a pair of “Pigtails” (right). You can also mix them up by using 2 different Hair Falls to combine colours.

To wear them, simply attach them over a ponytail or bun. You can wear 2 hairfalls together as a ponytail to give it greater volume.

Obsidian Star yarn hairfalls are made from yarns that have been individually knotted around a thick elastic band. This knotting method secures the yarn to the elastic and also provides a wider section of yarn covered elastic, to give a more even coverage over your hair. The elastics used are metal-free "ouchless" elastic bands.

Wearing
To wear the hairfalls you need to have hair long enough to get into a ponytail (or pigtails) or a bun. If your hair is too short for this, you can purchase a cheap wig to use as a base - securing the wig hair into buns/ponytails and attaching the hairfalls to that instead. A wig is a great option if you wish to have a fringe in a colour other than your natural hair colour, and you can leave the wig in buns ready to take the hairfalls any time.

To put them on, first make a ponytail, pigtails or buns. If you use a bun, your hair will be covered by the hairfalls. if you have pony/pigtails then your hair will show. You can use whichever method you like best. Make sure this is as secure as possible, as this is the "scaffolding" that will hold the hairfalls in place. If the bun comes loose, the hairfall will too, and a non-secure/loose attachment can make the hairfall seem heavier. Also the higher up on your head they are, the less heavy the hairfalls will feel - as your actual head will take some of the weight, not just hanging off your hair. I find tight buns work best, with several bobbypins to make sure it's not going to fall out.

Then place the hairfall upside down ontop of your head, securing the elastic around the bun/ponytail. Flick the hairfall over so that it covers the bun/ponytail - and you're done!

The display wig used here has very long thick hair, so the buns are quite large. Depending on the length of your own hair, your buns will most likely be a lot smaller. The larger the bun, the "poofier" the hair falls will look, and that's what gives them that high, almost ear-like look. If your own hair doesn't make big enough buns for the look you like, you could add fake hair to give it more volume (You can buy fake hair braids from most discount shops)

This picture below shows the difference in look when you have the hairfalls attached over a bun (left) or a pig/ponytail (right). See how the bun makes the hairfall stand up more. You can go for whichever look you like best.

To spice things up, you can mix 2 different coloured hairfalls together. Here a pink& black and a green & black pair have been combined.

You can use a headband/hairwrap with your falls. These are easier to put on before you put the hairfalls on.. but you can do it afterwards.

The hairfalls will tend to separate over time and your bun will peek through...

So it's a good idea to take a couple of bobby pins and open them out to a more V shape, and put a couple in to hold a few pieces of yarn over the top of the bun where you want it to be...

Which will hold them in place more securely, giving you a better look.

Washing and care instructions
These hairfalls are made from a mixture of acrylic and wool yarn. Most of the yarns are about 50% acrylic and 50% wool, but some colours are 100% acrylic, some have a higher percentage of wool. I even use some bamboo yarns in the hairfalls. They should only be washed if absolutely necessary - it is best to hang them up so they can air out between uses. If washing is needed, very gently hand wash them in a warm water with just a tiny bit of soap/detergent. Hang in the shade to fully dry. Do not wring or rub them or allow them to become tangled or felted while washing.

As you wear the hairfalls, you may notice some of the strands become stuck together. Each time you wear your falls, go through and carefully separate each strand and gently remove any fluff. This will keep them looking better for longer and minimise tangles. Do not brush or style the hairfalls. Do not use a hairdryer, straightener or other heating/styling device. Do not use hairspray on the hairfalls.
